Self-determination is an essential element of a free society – of life itself. When individuals surrender their basic responsibility of adding their voice to the public discourse, they contribute to the growth and empowerment of a political class.

Instead of ceding our personal authority to other individuals and elite interests, we must find ways to work together with others to determine our priorities and the distribution of our common resources. The way to do this is to form assemblies where we can have discussions and reach a consensus regarding these things.

The place where this must start is in our neighborhoods and communities. From there we can form networks of such assemblies to address broader issues. We can – and we must – start this now. You are invited to add your perspective as we work towards making this possible.
